Walmart and Other US Retail Giants Notify “Resume Shipping”! Tariffs “Borne by US Buyers”!

Recently, the “resume supply” notice from US retail giants has attracted widespread attention.

According to a report by Hong Kong’s Ming Pao on April 26, at the ongoing Canton Fair, multiple Chinese exporters revealed that US retail companies including Walmart, Target, and Home Depot have notified them to “resume sending” goods temporarily suspended due to the high tariffs imposed by the US on China, with tariff costs “borne by US buyers”.

Walmart and other companies have not yet confirmed the news, but previous reports said that the CEOs of the above three US retail giants went to the White House to meet with US President Trump on the 21st local time to discuss the impact of tariff policies on their “import-dependent” enterprises.

Walmart China recently also announced that it will open a green channel for eligible foreign trade enterprises. Chinese and American enterprises are consciously maintaining the normal operation of the supply chain, which once again shows from one side that tariff barriers cannot reverse the rigid demand of Sino-US economic and trade relations.

However, it should be noted that some exporters told Ming Pao that currently only part of the orders are “resuming supply”, while another part of the orders have been cancelled.

The reason why US retailers such as Walmart have lobbied the White House to continue cooperating with Chinese suppliers and are willing to bear tariffs themselves is that they can hardly find alternatives to “Made in China” in the short term. High-quality and affordable Chinese goods are largely related to their survival, operation, and profit margins.

Facts have proved that the beggar-thy-neighbor approach of anti-globalization is not only harmful but also cannot prevail. Countries around the world cannot return to the state of self-sufficiency, and “excluding China” from the global industrial chain is a pipe dream.
