U.S. Government Shutdown Poised to End

Donald Trump has stated his acceptance of the agreement proposed by the Senate to end the federal government shutdown, vowing to “quickly reopen the country.” During the swearing-in ceremony for the new U.S. Ambassador to India held at the White House on the 10th, when asked by reporters if he would accept the deal being advanced by the Senate, Trump responded clearly: “Yes, we will open the country very quickly.”

Earlier, Senate Republicans and moderate Democrats reached an agreement on the budget for some departments in the 2026 fiscal year and passed a procedural vote on a temporary spending bill that will last until January 30 next year.

In exchange, moderate Democrats secured the right to vote on the extension of “Obamacare” subsidies in December, though Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer expressed opposition to this.

Trump praised the compromise plan as “very good” and once again criticized the Obamacare program, emphasizing that he would not provide $1.5 trillion in health insurance benefits to “ex-convicts, gang members, and drug dealers.” The agreement is subject to final passage by the Senate, a vote in the House of Representatives, and the president’s signature before taking effect.
