Tariff Policies Change Rapidly – Pacifinex Keeps You Informed!

Multiple changes to global tariff policies emerged last week.

On September 17, the U.S. Department of Commerce issued its preliminary anti-dumping ruling on tin mill products from China, setting the adjusted cash deposit rate at 130.17%. Combined with the previous preliminary countervailing duty rate of 66.61%, the total deposit rate for such products exported to the U.S. rose to 196.78%.

On September 18, Trump signed a Russia-related sanctions bill, authorizing the U.S. government to impose tariffs of up to 100% on goods shipped to the United States from major buyers of Russian oil and gas. The measure may affect countries including China and India.

Meanwhile, China and the United States are negotiating tariff reductions for selected goods. Discussions cover lowering or even removing China’s 15% tariff on U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG), as well as reciprocal tariff cuts on roughly USD 30 billion worth of goods on each side. Negotiations are still ongoing, and no final deal has been reached.

Overall, global trade rules are increasingly fragmented, with tariff policies tightening and easing in parallel. Foreign trade enterprises need to closely monitor policy updates across nations and prepare risk contingency plans in advance.
