Tariff Policies Change Rapidly – Pacifinex Keeps You Informed!

Last week, global tariff adjustments and trade disputes continued to escalate.

On January 17th, Trump announced a 10% additional tariff on goods imported from 8 European countries, including Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, citing the Greenland agreement. If no deal is reached, the tariff rate will rise to 25% starting June 1st. The EU subsequently retaliated by imposing retaliatory tariffs of up to 30% on the US, which will take effect automatically on February 7th if negotiations fail.

On January 19th, Vietnam imposed anti-dumping duties of two tiers—2.59% and 39.88%—on various wood fiberboard products originating from China and Thailand, with a validity period of five years.

On January 20th, the US launched anti-dumping and countervailing investigations into Chinese products such as polypropylene corrugated boxes, with the maximum additional tariff rate reaching 1069.27%. On January 23rd, it imposed high anti-dumping and countervailing tariffs on environmentally friendly tableware made from bagasse and bamboo fiber produced in China and Vietnam, with the maximum combined tariff rate for China reaching 540.63%, which will significantly impact the US exports of relevant products.

The multi-party tariff game continues to intensify, further increasing uncertainties in the trade market.
