Massive Fire! Blaze Spreads Across Ship, Container Vessel “Listed”! Shipping Company Issues Warning!

According to the latest foreign media news, the “Wan Hai 503” Wangchun vessel continues to burn near the Indian coast, with 4 crew members still missing, and search operations are being stepped up. The ship has now listed, with more containers burned and fallen into the sea.

As of now, the fire has not been fully extinguished, and explosions continue to be heard. The ship is still “on fire and adrift,” with thick smoke continuing to billow from it. Recent photos show the fire has now spread to engulf the entire vessel.

The Indian Coast Guard stated that the fire and explosions continue to burn from the midship to the cargo hold in front of the crew quarters. The fire in the forward cargo hold is now under control, but the smoke remains thick. The ship is currently listing about 10 to 15 degrees to port, and more containers are reported to have fallen into the sea.

The Singapore Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) said today (June 11): “Firefighting operations on the ‘Wan Hai 503’ off the Indian coast are ongoing. Two additional fireboats from Indian authorities arrived at the scene tonight to support the ongoing response efforts.”

MPA is closely coordinating with Indian authorities, including supporting assessments of the ship’s structural integrity and potential environmental impacts. Indian authorities are concerned that the burning containers may affect the shipbuilding environment off the coast of Kerala.

In addition, while Indian media reported that the explosion might have been caused by dangerous goods, Wan Hai stated in a document that the cause of the explosion is under investigation. Wan Hai said the company is cooperating with authorities and insurance companies to handle subsequent crew rescue, cargo preservation, and ship salvage assessments.
